The Wildebeest's Review of Bird Atlas of Natal

The Wildebeest reviewing a book

This great book was one of the first books I bought when I was a new birder wanting to see as many species as possible from my base in Durban. I made extensive use of this Bird Atlas for many years.

The Bird Atlas of Natal was a remarkable achievement by the authors, and it is still a very useful guide as to where and when birds can be seen. The province was divided into quarter-degree squares and records were collected for each month. These records were shown as a filled in segment for the months when the bird can be found in that square. The maps are accompanied by short write-ups and a line drawing, done by Tony Clarkson, of the bird.

If you come across a copy of this book, I would definitely recommend that you add it to your library and use it on your next birding trip to KZN.
