The Wildebeest's Review of "Caravan and Outdoor Life - Issue 674"
It’s May 2018 and it is that time of year when this Wildebeest becomes a year older. One step closer to retirement and then what? At the foot of this month’s issue of Caravan and Outdoor Life there is heading, “seven weeks in Africa... and we’re in our 70’s.” What I wouldn’t give to spend seven weeks in Africa, or even South Africa, right now.
First up is an article by a family who traditionally spend time in August in Kruger National Park but then tried something different after experiencing the severe drought that Kruger was going through. So instead, they went to Umlalazi, Ndumo and Umkhuze. Three great places for different reasons. Umlalazi offers beaches, forest walks and more. Ndumo just means great birdwatching to me. Umkhuze offers good game viewing, and the birding isn’t half-bad as well.
The Swartberg is a rugged environment with some amazing scenery and scary roads. It is definitely somewhere one should try (in the right vehicle and not towing a caravan).
An article on Sherpa Caravans gives you a behind the scenes look at these small caravans. All parts are made on site. At present there are five models available which are suitable for either two or three people.
