Most people travelling on the N4 from Nelspruit towards either Kruger National Park or Mozambique are familiar with the spectacular range of hills on the southern side of the road, particularly in the Kaapmuiden area. These are the Krokodilpoortsberge.

Unfortunately, the N4 highway is a busy highway with very few places to pull off so it is difficult to take in the great scenery along the route.

As you would expect with their close proximity to Kruger National Park, there is a wide variety of game to be found in the area, along with around 400 species of birds. There are a couple of small reserves and conservancies preserving this diversity.

If you travel between Nelspruit and Barberton on the R40 you get to cross these rugged hills on a tar road that surely has some of the tightest corners in South Africa. Take care along this narrow road and only stop at safe points to take in the view.
